Meriton

Well lets begin.

June 2009, Meriton Apartments at the Rhodes complex, I ventured down stairs to the Basement Car Park, to place our recycling into the recyling bins, upon returning to the lift foyer to access the lift in order to return to our apartment located on the fifith floor.

I suffered a major accident,

As we all know Meriton and the owners cut corners when building, I guess that is why Harry Tricket is worth 4.2 billion dollars.

Ans in this case, the wheelchair access was a simple little line of floor tiles to make a make shift ramp, as I am a wheelchair user, the trouble I had to get through the door goes a little like this.

the make shift ramp was so steep at first point, second is a big heavy metal and glass door, one in which needed to opened manually by a key and then by hand.

Trouble was with one hand the height of the ramp made it extrtemely hard to push up with one hand. My chair fell backwards, smashing my head on the tiled surface of the lift foyer.

I was able to make it back to my chair, suffering huge amounts of back pain, and headaches, and dizziness, I quickly got back to my chair, went up stairs and check on our daughter , at that time she was almost one year old, I am a stay home father, so this situation worried me.

the effects of the fall became worse by end of the week, I had a series of cat scans, to clarify why I was suffering intense headaches. The result was Cerebral Atrophy, meaning the intense shock to my brain, had caused part of it to die off, I am only 36 -and the doctor said that should not happene until old age.

I am worried every day, and two weeks after the accident MEriton had rushed to repair all the pathways in the building (I believe accepting responsibility) I had contacted Department of planning aswell who showed dissapointment in the paths.

I suffered headaches daily since, Dr Corbett, (specialist from Concord Hospital) told me I will need strong pain killers on goinging, and that I suffered a head injury, and obtained delayed concussion.

Another noticable side affect, was weeks after the accident, I would be sitting still in my chair watching t.v and then I would fall from my chair, and black out, my wife was even more worried, what if that happened when our daughter was on my lap,

Now Meriton have denied liability, and as it is, our rent seems to be increasing above market value.

And talking of cost cutting in building construction, is evident in all meriton apartments, our bedroom roof is leaking badly, there has been broken toilets only partially fixed, broken lifts, access cut off by illegally parked cars.

Only good thing about our apartment complex is Lesley, the building manager, a lovely and very professional lady.
